American Indian Motion Picture Awards Show

Every year the American Indian Film Festival honors excellence in Indian cinematic achievement at the American Indian Picture Awards Show. This year's program will feature the presentation of awards in fourteen different categories along with performances by both established and up-and-coming Native artists.

The Yaaw Tei Yi Dance Group (Herring Rock) is a traditional Tlingit cultural group based in Juneau, Alaska. The group is rooted in the legends of the Kiks.ádi (Frog) Clan of Sitka, Alaska.

Swil Kanim (Chillawack, Nooksack, Upper Skagit, Samish) is a world-class virtuoso violinist. He intertwines his music with storytelling, poetry, and audience interaction.

Star Road Records recording artist Robert Mirabal (Taos Pueblo) is one of the leaders of the Native American flute resurgence. Robert is a two-time Native American Artist of the Year, three-time Songwriter of the Year, and a 2006 Grammy Award winner for Sacred Ground, Best Native American Album of the Year.

Jamie Coon's (Creek, Seminole) original tunes are a blend of pop and soul music. Jamie was recently nominated for Best Female Artist at the First Annual Southern California Music Awards.

Jana Mashonee

Jana (Lumbee) fuses elements of pop, R&B, world, gospel music, and her own ethnic background. Jana was a 2007 Grammy nominee for Best Native American Music Album. She has received Nammy Awards for Best Pop Performer, Song of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Record of the Year, and Producer of the Year.

Jana's music video for The Enlightened Time, directed by Stephan Galfas and Clint Childers, will be screened at the Nov. 4 matinée program.
