DOCUMENTARY FEATURE • 54 m • USA
"From Wisconsin With Love: People of Harvest" is a 2016 Northland College documentary film about the act of sustainable harvest as an antidote to extractive industry based on Anishinabe prophecy and practice. From 2011 - 2015 community members in Wisconsin's Penokee Hills on the south shore of Lake Superior challenged what would have been the world's largest taconite mine. The centerpiece of that challenge was the Anishinabe - led Harvest Education Learning Project: a five-acre protest/envisioning camp on the edge of the proposed mine site. In 2015 the mining company closed its doors and left the region. "From Wisconsin With Love: People of Harvest" is the story of what the community was fighting for - and what happened next. This film is the "prequel" to the 2014 documentary "To Wisconsin With Love" - about the community's experience fighting the GTac mine.vimeo.com/92711437 From Wisconsin With Love is a collaborative film created by Northland College filmmaker-in-residence Kanienkeha:ka Mohawk (Six Nations enrolled)/British descent Paulette Moore and her documentary students Aletha Hefko, Dane Hildebrandt, Sadye McCloud, Melissa Olsen, Axel Peterman, Kalley Rittman, Kate Roling and Jasmin Solberg.
