Directed by Drew Hayden Taylor - Once upon a time it was "Cowboys and Indians". Now it’s COTTAGERS AND INDIANS. Indigenous author Drew Hayden Taylor, who also wrote a play of the same name, goes on a cross-country exploration of the current hot-spots, historic conflicts, and peaceful co-existence that can occur when it comes to indigenous water and land rights.

Cottagers & Indians is included in the Food Sovereignty: Program 2 and it screens with Crow Country: The Right to Food Sovereignty.

THE MISSION OF THE AMERICAN INDIAN FILM INSTITUTE IS TO FOSTER UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF THE CULTURE, TRADITIONS, AND ISSUES FACING CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN INDIANS. AIFI SUPPORTS FILMMAKERS WHOSE WORK EXPRESSES THE NATIVE VOICES, VIEWPOINTS, AND STORIES HISTORICALLY EXCLUDED FROM MAINSTREAM MEDIA; DEVELOPS STORIES TRADITIONALLY EXCLUDED FROM MAINSTREAM MEDIA; CREATES AUDIENCES FOR THEIR WORK; AND ADVOCATES FOR AUTHENTIC REPRESENTATION OF AMERICAN INDIANS IN THE MEDIA.
